Essential Oils for Migraine Headaches
Considering holistic approaches, Essential oils seem to be the least understood, but can be extremely effective remedies, in the context of holistic care. So I’d love to shed some light on them for the migraine community.
If you suffer from frequent headaches and struggle to find an effective treatment, there are no shortage of natural headache remedies out there. But perhaps you haven’t tried the one option, the one principle ingredient/s that can make the biggest difference? I’m talking about essential oils.
WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL OILS?
Essential Oils are oils found in various parts of plants – bark, stem, flowers, rind, resin, etc. – that have the ability to support our body’s overall health. We already know that plants in nature produce food that supports our overall health. Well, these same plants also produce essential oils that can support our physical, mental and emotional health.

Where do I start?
First, see if you can identify some of your biggest migraine triggers. Then you can select the oils that are most supportive in overcoming those triggers. For example, if stress is a major migraine trigger for you, choose some preventive stress blends to manage your stress BEFORE the Migraine starts. Lack of sleep can be another trigger so I would choose essential oil blends that promote better sleep.
Headaches may also be the result of intense physical exertion, allergies, sinus pressure, certain foods and sensory stimuli. All of these triggers can be minimized or even eliminated with essential oils. No wonder they have been used for thousands of years — these miracle oils have the ability to treat just about any health condition.
